Knysna Hollow Reopens: Rising from the Ashes

Earlier this month, the brand new Knysna Hollow Country Estate reopened its doors to visitors almost 16 months after the devastating fires that tore through Knysna in June 2017. Not only do we have 44 elegant new rooms, but also a brand new, contemporary Manor House, a stunning restaurant, Social Eatery and many of the long-serving Knysna Hollow team back in the same positions as they held before the fire. The Knysna Fires

On 7 June 2017, tragedy struck when Knysna Hollow was completely destroyed by the wildfires that swept the area. Knysna Hollow was just one of over 400 homes and businesses devastated by the 2017 fires.

The Rebuild

Immediately after the fires, the decision was made to rebuild. Knysna Hollow was reimagined as a modern, 4-star property that was to have spacious rooms, a newly conceptualized restaurant and an atmospheric function space. Construction began on 1 September 2017.

The new Knysna Hollow Country Estate officially opened its doors on 8 October 2018.

Highlights of the Property

The Rooms

Knysna Hollow accommodates guests in 44 spacious Garden Suites with decor inspired by the surrounding forests and ocean. The modern Suites feature air-conditioning, satellite TV, Nespresso® coffee stations, tea kettle, safes, mini-bar fridges, hair-driers, telephones and private patios with outdoor seating. All rooms offer large en-suite bathrooms with double vanities, heated towel rails, L’Occitane guest amenities and a spacious walk-in ‘rain’ shower. Four adjoining rooms can be converted into two double-room Family Suites. Another 8 rooms offer sleeper couch sofas which can be converted into beds for children sharing with their parents.

The Gardens and Pools

Knysna Hollow is set in lush, indigenous gardens with meandering walkways connecting the Suites with two sparkling swimming pools, relaxing garden lounges and our Boules Court and Herb Garden.

The Restaurant and Bar

Social Eatery is our contemporary, casual restaurant serving breakfast, café lunches, bar snacks and dinner, 7 days a week. We serve good food made from fresh, local ingredients with an emphasis on healthy, tasty combinations. Meals can be enjoyed in the restaurant, bar lounge or outdoor decks and our unique barrel-vaulted private dining room. Social Bar serves craft G&T’s, locally-brewed beer on tap and a small wine cellar showcases some of South Africa’s rare and unique wines.

The Event Space

Our state-of-the-art Conference Venue that seats up to 160 delegates and features modern audio-visual facilities. The venue can also be converted into a glamorous banqueting venue for weddings and functions.
